Chief Jeremy Engbaum, originally from Duvall, Washington, exemplifies a steadfast commitment to public service and professional excellence throughout his distinguished career in law enforcement. His educational journey began at the College of Southern Idaho, where he earned his GED in 1998 and successfully completed the Idaho POST Training Academy. In 2003, he obtained dual degrees: an Associate of Arts in Criminal Justice and an Associate of Applied Science in Law Enforcement.
Dedicated to lifelong learning and leadership development, Chief Engbaum earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration from the University of Phoenix in 2017. He further advanced his expertise by completing a Master of Public Administration in 2019, equipping him with a strong foundation in law enforcement leadership and public sector management.
Chief Engbaum began his law enforcement career in 2001 as a Reserve Officer with the Filer Police Department. In 2004, he served with the Wendell Police Department, further gaining valuable experience and insight into community policing. In 2006, he joined the Buhl Police Department, where he has served in a variety of capacities with distinction. His unwavering professionalism, dedication, and leadership led to his appointment as Chief of Police. In this role, he continues to guide the department with integrity, upholding its mission to serve the community with excellence and foster a safe and secure environment.
In addition to his professional achievements, Chief Engbaum is deeply committed to his family. He is a proud father of four children, grandfather to two grandchildren, and engaged to be married. He also has two stepchildren, further enriching his family life. His ability to balance his dedication to public service with his family commitments reflects his strong values and character.
Lieutenant Mike Main, originally from Redding, California, is a seasoned law enforcement professional with a distinguished career spanning multiple roles and jurisdictions. A graduate of Modoc High School in Alturas, California, in 2003, he embarked on his law enforcement journey in 2007 after successfully completing the rigorous 880-hour California POST Training Program at Yuba City College.
Lt. Main began his career with the Alturas Police Department, where he served with distinction for approximately five years. In 2013, he transitioned to the role of District Attorney Investigator for Modoc County, further honing his investigative expertise. In 2015, he joined the Modoc County Sheriff’s Office, where he demonstrated strong leadership and operational skills, culminating in his promotion to Patrol Sergeant.
Seeking new opportunities and a better quality of life for his family, Lt. Main relocated to Idaho and joined the Buhl Police Department in February 2020. He currently serves as the Lieutenant of Patrol, where he oversees patrol operations and ensures the effective implementation of the department’s mission to protect and serve the community with integrity and professionalism.
Lt. Main is deeply committed to both his profession and his family. He is married to his wife Amanda, and together they have three children. His extensive experience, leadership, and dedication make him an invaluable asset to the Buhl Police Department and the community it serves.
