Buhl Police Department: A Historic Legacy of Service

The Buhl Police Department began its journey in July 1908, when J.H. Schooler was appointed as the Marshall of the newly established Village of Buhl, Idaho. This appointment symbolized the first step in creating a structured law enforcement presence in a community that was just beginning to take shape.

As the village grew into a bustling community, so did the responsibilities of the department. In 1917, Buhl achieved incorporation as a city, marking a significant milestone in its development. This transformation also brought new leadership, with T.I. Dennis becoming Buhl’s first official Chief of Police, tasked with building a department that would serve the needs of a growing city.

Throughout its history, the Buhl Police Department has been guided by 5 Marshalls, 23 Chiefs of Police, and 2 Interim Chiefs of Police, each leaving a lasting impact on the community and the department.
